Florals, The Symbol of Life

When I paint beautiful florals, I’m always drawn to how it beautifully represents our connection to everything around me. It’s a gentle reminder of how we’re all linked, roots deep in the earth, branches reaching for the sky, each part supporting and nurturing the other. flowers have shown up in so many cultures and stories, always speaking to growth, renewal and the ongoing cycles of life.
I nearly always paint from real life. A freshly picked bloom or two popped into a vase with a bud and leaves. .
I love how painting magnolia blooms brings together the earthly and the spiritual. Its roots anchor us, while its branches invite us to reach higher, suggesting a balance between our everyday lives and something greater. There’s a sense of harmony in the way the magnolia tree stands, grounded yet open, strong yet always growing.
Artists throughout history have found inspiration in trees as symbol. Gustav Klimt’s “Tree of Life” is a wonderful example, with its golden swirls and intricate patterns showing the tree as a bridge between worlds.
In my paintings, I like to explore these ideas in my own way, using colour, symbolism and rhythm to express the connection, hope and quiet strength that flowers and the trees they grow on represents for me.
